The joy of model railroading.
This little girl is fascinated with Barry Coulter's O Gauge layout at Christmastime when Farmer's State Bank asked Barry to set up his winter train layout in the bank lobby for guests to enjoy as they ate refreshments and chatted with bank employees to celebrate the upcoming holidays. This darling little girl is too young to remember the real trains that rolled through Elmwood many years ago, but her parents do remember. Model railroading is a way to teach children about bygone days when railroads were daily means of transportation in most villages and cities of the United States of America.
Shown here is a center view of the winter layout. There are many things going on in this model village as the fire truck rolls down the road to a fire deeper in the village.
I rather enjoy using huge pine cones embellished with snow for my winter o gauge train layouts. I started this tradition when I was a little boy and it brings back many happy memories. It's always nice to put store-bought pine trees on a layout but it's more imaginative to go out in search of your own pinecones and add the snow and pretend they are the forest trees in the village.
